These athletes are all sidelined from Paris Olympics for the same reason: ACL injury
Los Angeles Sparks player Cameron Brink injured her left knee’s ACL on June 18, 2024. She was preparing to compete in Paris with Team USA’s 3×3 basketball team just over a month later. The injury occurred as she was driving towards the basket. Her knee gave out suddenly, causing her to fall. Brink’s teammate Dearica Hamby helped her off the court after the injury, which happened without contact from another player during a game against the Connecticut Sun. On June 24, it was announced that Hamby would replace Brink on the 3×3 women’s Olympic team. Brink will miss the remainder of her debut season due to the injury and subsequent surgery. Recovery from ACL surgery typically takes between nine months to a year before athletes can return to sports.
