Imane Khelif Files Complaint Over Cyber Harassment
PARIS – Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, who won a gold medal at the Paris Olympics, has filed a complaint with the Paris public prosecutor’s office about severe cyber harassment. Her attorney, Nabil Boudi, has announced this on social media.
Khelif and Taiwanese boxer Lin Yu-ting, who also won gold in women’s boxing, faced controversy over “gender eligibility” during the Games. Some people questioned their gender, leading to online abuse.
Boudi’s statement said the investigation will look into who started this harmful campaign and who supported it. He described the harassment as a major problem of the Olympics.
Le Monde, a French newspaper, has reported seeing the complaint. Reuters also talked to Boudi, who confirmed the complaint was filed on Friday.
Despite the International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirming that both Khelif and Lin are women and meet all requirements, they received a lot of negative comments and false speculations online.
