Arshad Nadeem aims to compete till 2032 Olympics
Karachi: Pakistan’s Olympic gold medallist, Arshad Nadeem, has announced that he plans to keep competing until the 2032 Olympics.
Speaking to the media at the Governor House in Karachi, Arshad expressed his desire to continue bringing pride to the nation.
“This is just the start of my journey. I want to defend my title in 2028, and if I stay fit, I plan to participate in the 2032 Olympics as well,” he said, sharing his long-term goals after his historic win for Pakistan.
Arshad spoke about the warm welcome he received at Lahore Airport, where he was honored by the Chief Minister, who visited his village, and the Prime Minister, who invited him to the PM House on Independence Day. He also thanked the Governor of Sindh, Kamran Tessori, for recognizing his achievement.
“I received more honor than just my medal, and I am truly grateful for that,” Arshad said, appreciating the overwhelming support from his country.
The Olympic champion also praised the people of Karachi, saying he was amazed by the love he received. “This love motivates all athletes to do their best. When I saw the crowd yesterday, I felt like I could break a world record right there if someone handed me a javelin,” Arshad shared.
Arshad emphasized his commitment to working even harder. Reflecting on his performance at the Paris Olympics, he mentioned feeling confident after the qualifiers but admitted a slight mistake during his first throw due to his run-up. “I quickly calmed down and managed to achieve a record throw on my second attempt,” he recalled.
“I’ve put a lot of effort into improving my run-up, and my physique gives me an advantage,” he added, discussing his focus on refining his technique.
Arshad also mentioned that he is scheduled to meet with the Army Chief soon. When asked about the performance of athletes from India and Pakistan, he said, “I’m happy to see athletes from both India and Pakistan showcasing their talent on the global stage.”
