Great Britain delivered an impressive performance on the water, securing medals in four of the five Para rowing events on Sunday at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. Lauren Rowles, already a Paralympic gold medallist, clinched her third gold medal in the mixed double sculls PR2 with Gregg Stevenson. The pair surged past China in the final 100 meters, leaving Rowles elated. “Winning this third gold means everything,” she said, reflecting on her journey since Tokyo.

In a tight contest, Israel’s Moran Samuel won her first Paralympic gold in the women’s single sculls PR1, edging out Birgit Skarstein. Samuel, who previously secured bronze in Rio and silver in Tokyo, expressed her joy at finally achieving gold. Meanwhile, Australia’s Jed Altschwager and Nikki Ayers made history as the inaugural Paralympic champions in the mixed double sculls PR3 event.

French shooter Tanguy de La Forest continued his standout performance, securing gold in the mixed 10m air rifle prone SH2, adding to his silver medal from earlier in the Games. Slovakia’s Veronika Vadovicova also made headlines, winning her fifth Paralympic gold in the mixed 10m air rifle prone SH1, a streak she has maintained since Beijing 2008.

In archery, American Jason Tabansky, a late addition to the Paris Games, seized the gold in the men’s individual W1. His success came after Australian Christopher Davis withdrew due to injury. “It’s a bittersweet victory,” Tabansky said, dedicating his win to Davis.

The day also saw the first boccia medals awarded. Portugal’s Cristina Goncalves earned gold in the women’s individual competition, while Thailand’s Worawut Saengampa triumphed in the men’s BC2 category.

In cycling, French athlete Marie Patouillet ended her Paralympic career with a gold in the women’s C5 3000m individual pursuit. The day concluded with sprinter Guillaume Junior Atangana of the Refugee Paralympic Team claiming bronze in the men’s 400m T11, marking a significant achievement for the team.

Overall, Paris 2024 continues to showcase remarkable performances and historic achievements across a range of sports.
