Paris 2024: Para canoe begins as first sitting volleyball medals decided on Day 9

With only three days left at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, the action is heating up!

Para Canoe Kicks Off Para canoe will start on Day 9 at the Vaires-sur-Marne Stadium. The first day will feature heats for all 10 events, with medals to be decided over the next two days. Around 100 athletes will compete, showing off their skills and determination.

Australian Curtis McGrath, who won two gold medals in Tokyo 2020, is ready to defend his titles. “Our sport is super exciting, but it’s over quickly. Creating more buzz around it would be great,” he said.

Sitting Volleyball Finals The first gold medals in sitting volleyball will be awarded on Day 9. The men’s final will see Iran, aiming for their third consecutive gold medal, face Bosnia and Herzegovina. Iran’s star player, Morteza Mehrzadselakjani, is looking to lead his team to victory.

Iranian player Sadegh Bigdeli said, “We can’t predict the outcome, but we will try our best to win against Bosnia and Herzegovina.”

Germany and Egypt will play for bronze earlier in the day.

Wheelchair Basketball Semifinals Day 9 will also decide which teams will play in the women’s wheelchair basketball final. On Day 8, Great Britain and the USA advanced to the men’s final.

On Day 9, the women’s semifinals will feature China vs. the USA and Canada vs. the Netherlands.

Saysunee Jana Aims for Third Gold In wheelchair fencing, Thailand’s Saysunee Jana is going for her third gold medal of the Games. She’ll compete in the women’s epee category B, hoping to improve on her bronze medal from Tokyo 2020.

Jana, who has already won gold in the women’s foil and women’s sabre categories, said, “I gained a lot of experience over the years. This year, I’m aiming for gold in epee.”

Diede de Groot’s Singles Challenge Dutch wheelchair tennis star Diede de Groot is looking to defend her women’s singles gold at Roland-Garros Stadium. She’ll face Japan’s Yui Kamiji, who beat her earlier this year.

De Groot and Aniek van Koot won silver in women’s doubles on September 5. Now, de Groot is focused on winning the singles title.
