Paris 2024: Blind football to kick off at the foot of the Eiffel Tower
Day four of the Paris 2024 Paralympics is here, and the excitement is growing!
Today, Paralympic athletes will shine in Paris. Blind football starts at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. Boccia, a sport with no Olympic version, will award its first gold medals. Para badminton will also crown its first champions of these Games. Note that Para triathlon events, originally scheduled for September 1, have been moved to day five.
Blind Football Kicks Off
The blind football tournament begins at the Eiffel Tower. Brazil has won every gold medal since the sport was added to the Paralympics. But other teams are ready to challenge Brazil. France, the European champions, will have the support of the local crowd, while Argentina, the winners of the recent World Championships, will also be strong competitors.
Today features four group stage matches. Japan will play against Colombia first, followed by France versus China in the evening.
Boccia’s First Medals
Boccia is creating a buzz in Paris. The first gold medals of the Games will be awarded in the women’s individual BC2 and men’s boccia tournaments. For the first time, men and women are competing separately.
In the women’s BC2 event, Claire Taggart from Great Britain, Jeong Soyeong from South Korea, Cristina Goncalves from Portugal, and Gischa Zayana from Indonesia will compete for gold.
For the men’s event, Watcharaphon Vongsa and Worawut Saengampa from Thailand, Robert Mezik from Slovakia, and Muhammad Bintang Herlangga from Indonesia are in the running.
Para Badminton’s Gold Medal Matches
In Para badminton, the gold medals will be decided today. Watch for the men’s doubles WH1-WH2 and the women’s doubles WH1-WH2 matches at La Chapelle Arena. Japan’s Sarina Satomi and Yuma Yamazaki will try to defend their Tokyo 2020 titles.
Exciting 400m Race
At the Stade de France, 19 gold medals are up for grabs. One of the highlights is the men’s 400m T11 final. Guillaume Junior Atangana and his guide Donard Ndim Nyamjua from the Refugee Paralympic Team will compete for their second medal. Zakia Khudadadi won the first bronze medal for the team in Para taekwondo on day one.
French athlete Timothee Adolphe hopes the home crowd will help him win his first gold medal.
