Paris 2024: A look at the world records that tumbled in Paris

The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games were filled with amazing performances and record-breaking moments. Here’s a look at some highlights:

Jaydin Blackwell from the USA set a new record in the men’s 100m T38 sprint with a time of 10.64 seconds at Stade de France. He beat his own previous record by 0.08 seconds. After the race, Blackwell said he focused on running as fast as possible and was thrilled when he saw his time.

Vanessa Low from Australia set a new world record in the women’s long jump T61 by jumping 5.45 meters. This was 0.12 meters further than her previous record. Competing in her fourth Games, Low felt at home and happy during her jumps.

Simone Barlaam from Italy broke the world record in the men’s 50m freestyle S9 with a time of 23.90 seconds. He won three gold medals and one silver in the pool.

Gabriel Geraldo dos Santos Araujo from Brazil broke the world record twice in the men’s 150m individual medley SM2. He set a new record with a time of 3:15.06 in the heats and then improved it to 3:14.02 in the final.

Onyinyechi Mark from Nigeria set a new world record in Para powerlifting. On September 6, she lifted 147kg and then 150kg, winning gold and breaking the world record twice in a row.

Folashade Oluwafemiayo, also from Nigeria, set a new record in the women’s over 86kg weight class. She first broke the record with her third lift and then again with a huge lift of 167kg.

Caroline Groot from the Netherlands set a world record in the women’s C5 500m time trial during the qualifying round at the National Velodrome. She won the first gold medal of the Games.

Alexandre Leaute from France set a world record in the men’s C2 3000m individual pursuit. He won gold in front of a supportive home crowd. Leaute attributed his success to his new coach and the encouragement from fans.

The Games also saw records broken in other sports, including Para rowing.
