Legendary wrestler John Cena announced that he will retire from World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) after WrestleMania 2025.
After an incredible 23-year career, Cena revealed he is close to retiring during a surprise appearance at the Money in the Bank event on Saturday in Toronto, Canada.
Cena, known for his famous entrance song “Your Time is Up, My Time is Now,” has decided it’s time to step away from the ring.
“Why am I here? Tonight, I officially announce my retirement from WWE,” Cena said, shocking the WWE fans.
“This farewell doesn’t end tonight,” he added. “There’s still more to come. Next year, Raw will be on Netflix for the first time, and I’ll be part of that history.”
He continued, “The 2025 Royal Rumble will be my last. The 2025 Elimination Chamber will be my last. And I’m here tonight to announce that in Las Vegas, WrestleMania 2025 will be the last WrestleMania I compete in.”
At first, the crowd booed Cena, but once he announced his retirement, the boos turned into cheers and “thank you” chants.
“Thank you for letting me be a part of this for so many years,” Cena said. “Thank you for your loud voices and your honest opinions. And thank you for letting me be here tonight to share this news. We’re planning something unforgettable, and I’ll be back in Toronto to make it happen!”
