Red Bull term Lando Norris dominance ‘alarming’ and ‘scary
Red Bull is worried after Lando Norris’s strong win at the Dutch Grand Prix, which could hurt their chances of winning both Formula 1 world championships.
Norris made a comeback from a poor start to overtake Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and won the race by almost 23 seconds in his upgraded McLaren. This win has reduced Verstappen’s lead in the drivers’ championship to 70 points. McLaren is now just 30 points behind Red Bull in the constructors’ standings, with nine races left in the season.
Red Bull’s Helmut Marko said Norris’s performance was “alarming” and showed that McLaren is a serious threat to both titles this year.
Verstappen hasn’t won a race in the last five events, with his last victory being at the Spanish Grand Prix in June. He admitted that this weekend was tough and said the recent races haven’t been great, but he believes there’s no need to panic. He and his team are working on improving their performance.
Verstappen’s teammate, Sergio Perez, who finished sixth, is also worried about McLaren’s speed, calling it “scary.” He was disappointed with their race pace and said it was surprising how fast McLaren and Ferrari were. Perez noted that the team collected a lot of data from this race, which they hope will help them improve. He added that Monza, the next track, will be different, but seeing McLaren’s performance was unsettling.
