Swiatek adds Osaka’s former coach Fissette to team
World number one Iga Swiatek has brought on board Belgian coach Wim Fissette, known for his work with top players like Naomi Osaka, Kim Clijsters, and Victoria Azarenka. The 23-year-old Polish tennis star shared the news on Thursday.
This change comes after Swiatek parted ways with her previous coach, Tomasz Wiktorowski, earlier this month. Wiktorowski had been instrumental in her success over the past three years, guiding her through four of her five Grand Slam titles, including three French Open victories.
Swiatek made the announcement on social media, writing, “I’m happy to share that Wim Fissette is joining my team.” She emphasized that her focus remains on long-term growth rather than short-term gains, adding, “I’ve always viewed my career as a marathon, not a sprint, and I make decisions with that in mind.”
Swiatek expressed her excitement about working with Fissette, praising his experience and positive approach. “Wim brings great attitude, vision, and top-level experience. It’s important to get to know each other, but we’ve started off well, and I’m looking forward to competing soon,” she said.
Swiatek is currently preparing for the WTA Finals, where she hopes this new partnership will bring continued success to her already stellar career.
