Ind Vs Pak: How Can Pakistan Qualify For the Super 8 Round Scenario

Jun 10, 2024

Pakistan’s hopes of Qualifying to the Super 8 of the competition were badly damaged when they fell to India by six runs in their second match of the T20 World Cup 2024, which was contested in New York on Sunday.

All of Pakistan’s key players failed in New York, and the country was unable to chase the 120-run target set by a weak Indian batting squad.

Since they can no longer control the situation, their route to the Super 8 has become much more challenging after two losses in two games.

Here’s how Pakistan may make it to the T20 World Cup Super 8 round with just two games remaining:

June 11: Pakistan vs. Canada: Pakistan Win

June 12: India vs USA: India Win

June 14: Ireland vs. USA: Ireland Win

June 15: India Vs Canada: India Win

June 16: Ireland vs Pakistan: Pakistan Win

Pakistan will have four points from four matches, whereas India will have eight, if all the outcomes follow the scenario outlined above. After the group stage, the USA will have the same number of points as Pakistan, while Canada and Ireland will have two points apiece.

In the situation described above, Pakistan and the USA would have four points each, and India would automatically qualify for the Super Eight. Under such circumstances, Net Run Rate (NRR) will be used. The Green Shirts must defeat Canada and Ireland with significant margins, and they must also hope that the USA loses to Ireland and India by sizeable proportions.

Despite having a strong start—Pakistan had not lost a wicket in the opening four overs—the Green Shirts were unable to take advantage of their lead, when captain Babar Azam was bowled out for 13 runs by Jasprit Bumrah.

Following the captain’s dismissal, Usman Khan entered the field and supported Mohammad Rizwan; nevertheless, the right-handed batsman was dismissed by Axar Patel.

Pakistan’s middle-order batsmen failed to create the partnership they required, as Fakhar Zaman (13 off 8), Shadab Khan (4 off 7), and Imad Wasim (15 off 23) all went to the pavilion without making a significant contribution to the score.

But it was after Bumrah bowled Rizwan for 31 runs that the game turned around. Although Bumrah refuted it, the wicketkeeper batter appeared to be the one leading the Green Shirts to victory and was in a strong position.

After 20 overs, Pakistan reached 113-7 to end their innings. Bumrah took three wickets for India, Hardik Pandya claimed two, and Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel each claimed one.

In one of the most anticipated cricket matches of the competition, the Pakistani bowlers thoroughly outclassed the Indian hitters earlier in the first innings, denying them much opportunity to show off.
