Olympian Mahoor Shahzad has claimed her eighth consecutive National Championship title, continuing her winning streak. Despite doctors advising her to take a break from training for four months after the birth of her baby girl, Mahoor was determined not to miss the competition.

Speaking to Geo News in Lahore, she shared her commitment to retaining the title. “The National Championship is held just once a year, and I was determined to participate, regardless of the challenges. I couldn’t let the title slip away. Thankfully, I managed to defend it for the eighth time, and I’m incredibly happy,” she said.

The 27-year-old also opened up about the difficulties of balancing motherhood and training. “It’s tough when you have a young baby. I’d train whenever I could, even if it was just for half an hour. During matches, my mother took care of her, but hearing my baby cry was hard. I had to push through those moments.”

Mahoor also emphasized the need for more international exposure for Pakistani players. “Our country needs to participate in more international tournaments, and hosting events in Pakistan will help give players better opportunities,” she noted.

Despite her recent break due to pregnancy, Mahoor remains determined to improve her world ranking. “I couldn’t compete internationally for a while, but now I’m focused on participating in as many events as possible to boost my ranking,” she concluded.
