UEFA to honour Ronaldo as Champions League all-time top scorer
Cristiano Ronaldo will receive a special award from UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin for being the all-time top scorer in the Champions League, UEFA announced on Tuesday.
At 39 years old, Ronaldo has scored 140 goals in 183 matches while playing for Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus. He has won the Champions League five times—four times with Real Madrid (2014, 2016, 2017, 2018) and once with Manchester United (2008). He is also the only player to have scored in three different finals (2008, 2014, and 2017).
Ronaldo will be honored at the draw ceremony for the 2024/25 Champions League group stage, which will be held in Monaco on Thursday.
UEFA said in a statement, “Cristiano Ronaldo, the all-time leading goal scorer in the Champions League, will receive a special award from UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin for his incredible achievements in the competition.”
Ronaldo has been the top scorer in the Champions League for seven seasons and holds the record for most goals in a single season, with 17 goals during the 2013/14 campaign.
Ceferin praised Ronaldo, saying, “Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the brightest stars in the Champions League. His record-breaking achievements will likely remain unmatched for a long time, setting a high bar for future players.
