Saudi Arabia Unveils King Salman Stadium for 2034 World Cup

Nov 20, 2024

Saudi Arabia has unveiled plans for the King Salman Stadium, a massive venue with a seating capacity of 92,000, set to be built in Riyadh for the 2034 FIFA Men’s World Cup. The Saudi Ministry of Sports released a promotional video showcasing the stadium, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2029.

The stadium will serve as the home base for the Saudi national football team and will feature a range of world-class facilities, including an indoor sports hall, an Olympic-sized pool, and a variety of VIP amenities. It will also have a Royal Box, 300 VVIP seats, and 2,200 additional VIP seats.

One of the unique features of the stadium will be its connection to the surrounding environment, with green walls, gardens, and a walking path on the roof offering panoramic views of King Abdulaziz Park.

Although not officially confirmed by FIFA, Saudi Arabia is the only country that submitted a bid to host the 2034 World Cup, and is widely expected to win the vote. King Salman Stadium is a key part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 initiative, which aims to position the country as a global sports and cultural hub.

The stadium’s design, by the architectural firm Populous, will help redefine sports venues worldwide. In addition to King Salman Stadium, Saudi Arabia is planning to build other major stadiums, including Prince Mohammed bin Salman Stadium, King Fahad International Stadium, and Aramco Stadium, all set to play a role in the 2034 World Cup
