Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr. contemplating Saudi Arabia offerv

Aug 13, 2024

Vinicius Junior, the Real Madrid star, is reportedly being targeted by the Saudi Pro League, with the player considering a potential move to the Gulf region, according to ESPN sources.

At 24, Vinicius was instrumental in helping Real Madrid secure a Champions League and La Liga double last season and is among the top contenders for the Ballon d’Or this year.

Discussions have taken place between Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) and Real Madrid about the possible transfer. However, Real Madrid is eager to keep their key player.

As of now, no formal offer has been made for Vinicius, according to a source. Vinicius scored 24 goals in all competitions for Madrid during the 2023-24 season and has become a vital player since joining in 2018, even scoring in two Champions League finals.

The Saudi PIF owns a 75% stake in the country’s top four clubs: Al Ahli, Al Ittihad, Al Hilal, and Al Nassr. The plan is for Vinicius to serve as an ambassador for Saudi Arabia’s 2034 World Cup bid.

Reportedly, the Saudis have approached Vinicius’ representatives with an offer of up to €350 million (£300 million) per year, but the player has not yet made a decision.

Real Madrid would expect to receive Vinicius’ buyout clause, set at €1 billion, if the transfer were to happen. His contract with Madrid runs until June 2027, and for the deal to go through, Real Madrid would likely need to agree to a fee below the release clause value.
