Eddie Howe Provides Update on Alexander Isak’s Injury After Draw with Crystal Palace
Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak’s injury during the 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace on Saturday isn’t serious, according to manager Eddie Howe.
The match saw Newcastle take the lead through an own goal by Palace defender Marc Guehi but failed to register a shot on target. Palace leveled the score in added time with a goal from Daniel Munoz, leaving Newcastle to settle for a point.
Speaking about Isak’s early substitution, Howe clarified, “It was a contact injury, not a muscle pull, which is a relief for us. We’re hoping for a quick recovery, but it’s too soon to say.”
Newcastle’s attacking lineup has been plagued by injuries this season. Callum Wilson, who recently returned after four months out with a back injury, was unavailable to replace Isak early in the game. “Callum hasn’t had enough training yet, and I have to be cautious to avoid further setbacks,” Howe explained.
The Newcastle boss admitted the team’s struggles with injuries and confidence have been a significant challenge, especially with a tough December schedule ahead. “Losing Alex was a big blow. We’re already low on confidence, and it showed in our performance,” Howe said.
Newcastle, currently 10th in the Premier League, will host league leaders Liverpool on Wednesday.
