Nadia Khan eyes improved performance for Pakistan at SAFF Championship
With the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship approaching, Nadia Khan, a key player for the Pakistan Women’s National Football Team, is confident that the team will perform better than in previous tournaments. “I expect a different result from last time,” she said, highlighting her belief in the team’s growth and abilities.
In an exclusive interview with Geo News, the 23-year-old UK-based striker discussed her return to football after a lengthy recovery from an ACL injury. Reflecting on her time away, she shared, “It’s been a good 12 months of being off the field due to the injury, but Alhamdulillah, I’ve come back stronger and can’t wait to play again.” She last played for Pakistan during their match in Nepal.
Khan emphasized how her mindset and determination were crucial to her recovery. “I think it’s my mentality and drive that pushed me forward,” she said, seeing the injury not as a setback but as a learning experience. “I feel like I’ve grown as a player on and off the field.”
Excited to represent Pakistan again, Khan described the feeling of playing for her country as indescribable. She also acknowledged the challenges the team faces, such as limited international matches, and expressed hope for more competitive opportunities. “We deserve to play more international games, especially during FIFA windows,” she said.
Despite the tough competition ahead in the SAFF Championship, Nadia expressed full confidence in her teammates and their ability to make a strong impact. She also praised the improvements in local players, crediting their development and hard work.
When asked about potential distractions caused by delays in obtaining No Objection Certificates (NOCs), she remained focused on the team’s performance. “Our job is to focus on the game,” she said, trusting others to handle off-field matters.
