Medical specialist reveals reason behind Ronaldo, Messi successful careers
Medical expert Eduard Estivill recently shared what he believes is a key factor behind the continued success of football legends Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi: their strict sleep routines. On the Endor Podcast, Estivill explained that the sleep patterns of both players play a crucial role in their performance on the field.
According to Estivill, Messi typically sleeps for 11 hours a day, which includes naps, while Ronaldo follows a similar routine. Ronaldo even has a dedicated sleep coach who helps him maintain his optimal rest schedule. The medical professional stressed that despite popular belief, footballers use up a lot of energy in training and matches, and sleep is critical for their recovery. In fact, he noted that a lack of sleep is a major cause of muscle injuries among athletes.
Even as Ronaldo and Messi age, they continue to break records and achieve remarkable success. Recently, Ronaldo scored his 900th career goal and is now aiming for 1,000 before he retires. Messi, who has been thriving at Inter Miami, has already netted seven goals in six matches for his club.
Despite turning 40 in February, Ronaldo has dismissed any rumors about retirement, while Messi, who will turn 38 soon, is focused on competing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup instead of stepping away from the game. Their discipline in areas like rest and recovery helps them maintain peak performance levels despite being well into their 30s and beyond.
