Juventus focused on Como and not transfer window, says Motta

Aug 18, 2024

Juventus is starting their Serie A season with fewer players than usual and still needs to make some signings in the transfer market. However, their manager, Thiago Motta, believes the team is strong enough to compete. After four years without winning the league, Juventus made big changes, including hiring Motta to replace their previous coach, Massimiliano Allegri. They still haven’t brought in all the players they need to challenge for the title.

For Monday’s first home game against newly promoted Como, Motta’s team isn’t yet complete. There’s a possibility that American midfielder Weston McKennie, who was expected to leave, might stay and be part of the squad.

Motta said, “McKennie is a useful player for us. We have 19 players ready for tomorrow’s game, but only 11 can start. We can make five substitutions. We’ve had good preparation, and we’re ready for the game.”

Juventus has been linked with players like Atalanta’s Teun Koopmeiners and Fiorentina’s Nicolas Gonzalez but hasn’t signed them yet. They also lost defender Riccardo Calafiori to Arsenal and Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee, who joined Manchester United. Forward Federico Chiesa may also leave as he doesn’t fit into Motta’s plans.

Motta emphasized that the team’s focus is on playing well against Como and achieving the result they want. He added, “All the players who will play tomorrow have earned their spot.”
