Arsenal’s defender Takehiro Tomiyasu will miss the start of the Premier League season due to a knee injury, according to manager Mikel Arteta. Tomiyasu, 25, didn’t travel with the team for their pre-season tour in the U.S. and was also absent from Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Lyon in London on Sunday.
Arteta mentioned that Tomiyasu’s recovery will take several weeks. “He’ll need to be patient and work through it,” Arteta said about the injury.
Dutch defender Jurrien Timber, who missed most of last season due to a serious knee injury, also didn’t play in Sunday’s game but is expected to return to training within the next week.
Arsenal, who finished second last season, will start their Premier League campaign at home against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
