Flick says ‘no excuses’ after Barca’s shock defeat at Real Sociedad

Nov 12, 2024

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick took full responsibility for his team’s unexpected 1-0 loss to Real Sociedad, ending their seven-game winning streak across competitions. Flick commended Real Sociedad’s performance and acknowledged that Barcelona simply didn’t create enough scoring opportunities, making “no excuses” for the result. Despite the loss, Barcelona remains on top of LaLiga with 33 points, six points clear of second-placed Real Madrid, who have a game in hand.

Reflecting on the match, Flick admitted, “Today was not our day. We have to accept this result because they played decisively. We started strong but eventually struggled, made poor decisions, and didn’t get any shots on target.” Real Sociedad not only capitalized on Barca’s mistakes but created multiple scoring chances, highlighting Barca’s defensive struggles.

Flick emphasized the need to learn from this loss. “The responsibility for the defeat is ours. We could and should have played much better,” he said. While he praised the team’s excellent performances throughout the season, he noted that Barca’s lack of possession and control hurt them in this game.

Flick encouraged his team’s unity and effort but admitted that they lacked the strength to earn a better result this time around.
