Cristiano Ronaldo made history once again with Al Nassr as he led his team to a 2-0 victory over Al Taawoun, securing a spot in the Saudi Super Cup 2024 final.
Ronaldo scored his first goal of the new season during the Super Cup semi-final on Wednesday, becoming the first player to score in 23 consecutive seasons.
His goal helped Al Nassr reach the final, where they will face their longtime rival, Al Hilal.
After the match, the 39-year-old Portuguese football star shared his excitement on social media. He posted pictures from the game on Instagram and wrote: “Super Cup final here we come!”
However, the match wasn’t all smooth sailing for Ronaldo and his team. Late in the game, Al Nassr’s Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic received a red card, making him unavailable for the upcoming final.
Ronaldo’s reaction to the red card went viral, as cameras caught him on the bench, watching the replay and expressing disbelief that the referees had affected Al Nassr once again.
Al Nassr plans to appeal the decision, hoping to have the red card downgraded or canceled before the final next Saturday against Al Hilal. This final gives Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, another chance to win his first trophy in Saudi Arabia after Al Hilal had denied his team titles in both the King’s Cup and the Saudi Pro League.
