Pakistan is set to host Tests against Bangladesh, England and West Indies during a busy 2024-25 season
Pakistan’s cricket season for 2024-25 is set to be one of the busiest yet, featuring an array of international matches. This includes a Test series against Bangladesh, England, and the West Indies, an ODI tri-series with New Zealand and South Africa, and the Champions Trophy.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has unveiled the full schedule for the home season. Notably, the Champions Trophy, set for February 19 to March 9 next year, is currently in its draft stage.
Pakistan will host seven Test matches in the 2024-25 season, marking it as the busiest red-ball international home season this century. Between August 2024 and January 2025, Pakistan will welcome Bangladesh, England, and the West Indies for Test series.
The home season kicks off with Bangladesh visiting for two Tests in Rawalpindi and Karachi from August 21 to September 3. Despite typically avoiding home internationals in August due to the heat and humidity, and the monsoon season posing weather risks, Pakistan will proceed with these matches. Historically, Pakistan has played only two home Tests in August, also against Bangladesh, in 2003.
Following the Bangladesh series, England will tour Pakistan for three Tests from October 7-28, to be held in Multan, Karachi, and Rawalpindi.
After England’s visit, Pakistan will embark on a limited-overs tour of Australia and Zimbabwe, and a comprehensive tour of South Africa. The Australia tour includes three ODIs and three T20Is from November 4-18, followed by matches in Zimbabwe from November 24 to December 5. The South Africa tour starts with a T20I series on December 10 and concludes with two Tests from December 26 to January 7 in Centurion and Cape Town.
West Indies will then tour Pakistan for Tests in Karachi and Multan from January 16-28. The original tour scheduled for January this year was postponed due to a packed calendar, and the three T20Is originally included will not take place.
All seven home Tests are part of the World Test Championship, where Pakistan currently ranks fifth. This season contrasts sharply with the previous one, which saw no home Tests. The last home Test series was in January 2023 against New Zealand.
After the West Indies series, Pakistan will host an ODI tri-series involving South Africa and New Zealand from February 8-14 in Multan, featuring four games.
Lahore, the PCB headquarters, will not host any fixtures until the Champions Trophy due to the redevelopment of Gaddafi Stadium. The PCB is optimistic that the stadium will be ready for the Champions Trophy, marking the first ICC event hosted by Pakistan in 29 years. However, India’s participation remains uncertain as they have not toured Pakistan since international cricket resumed there in 2015.
