Pakistan Beats England to Stay Unbeaten in Legends World Championship
The Men in Green now have four wins in the competition
Pakistan outclassed England by 79 runs in the tenth match of the World Championship of Legends 2024 at Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham. This victory keeps Pakistan unbeaten in the tournament, marking their fourth consecutive win after previously defeating Australia, West Indies, and India.
Batting first, Pakistan posted a total of 196/4. The Men in Green lost their openers Kamran Akmal (11) and Sharjeel Khan (13) early in the innings. However, a crucial 121-run partnership between Sohaib Maqsood and Shoaib Malik laid a solid foundation for Pakistan. Maqsood scored 64 runs off 44 balls, while Malik contributed 51 runs off 33 balls. Their partnership ensured Pakistan had a strong total to defend.
Skipper Misbah-ul-Haq, stepping in for Younis Khan, added a quick 23* off 14 balls, and Abdul Razzaq hit a rapid 20* off 9 balls, boosting the score in the final overs. For England, Stuart Meaker was the standout bowler, taking 2 wickets for 25 runs.
In their defense of the 197-run target, Pakistan struck early by dismissing England captain Kevin Pietersen for just 4 runs. Phil Mustard tried to keep England in the game, but after scoring 34 runs, he was dismissed as he attempted to accelerate the run rate. Ian Bell (11) was run out by Yasir Arafat, and Kevin O’Brien (24) was clean bowled by Shoaib Malik.
England struggled to build any significant partnerships, losing wickets at regular intervals. Pakistan’s bowlers were dominant, with Saeed Ajmal taking three wickets and Abdul Razzaq bagging two. Shoaib Malik, Sohail Khan, and Aamer Yamin each took one wicket, leading to England being bowled out for 117 runs.
With this win, Pakistan remains at the top of the points table with 8 points, followed by Australia and India, each with 4 points. England is in fourth place with 2 points. The top four teams will qualify for the semi-finals.
