Heavy Rain Ends ENG W vs PAK W Second ODI Prematurely
Only 6.5 overs were bowled in the game
The second women’s ODI between Pakistan and England in Taunton ended in disappointment as heavy rain forced the match to be abandoned on Sunday.
The game began at 11:00 BST, and Pakistan had started positively, reaching 29 runs without loss after 6.5 overs when the rain intervened. Sadaf Shamas was unbeaten on 18 runs, supported by Sidra Amin who contributed 7 runs.
Persistent downpours throughout the day left significant puddles on the outfield, making it impossible to resume play. After waiting until 15:10 BST, officials decided to abandon the match due to the unfavorable weather conditions.
This result comes after England secured a 37-run victory over Pakistan in the first ODI. Despite Pakistan’s promising start in their chase of England’s 244-run target, they fell short, unable to achieve their first-ever ODI win over England.
The series will now conclude with the third and final ODI scheduled to take place at Chelmsford on Wednesday. England will aim to maintain their lead and secure the series win after dominating the preceding three-match T20 series, which they won 3-0.
With the series currently standing at 1-0 in favor of England after the abandoned match, both teams will look to regroup and prepare for the final showdown. Pakistan, under the captaincy of Nida Dar, will seek to bounce back and level the series, while England, led by Heather Knight, will aim to seal victory on home soil.
The squads for both teams include a mix of experienced players and promising talents, highlighting the competitive nature of the series. As the teams head to Chelmsford, all eyes will be on the weather conditions and the players’ performances as they strive for success in the final match of the ODI series.
