Steve Smith Shuts Down Retirement Speculation
Recently, Smith was moved to the top order in Test matches after David Warner retired. However, his performance as an opening batter hasn’t lived up to expectations, as he hasn’t scored a century.
Despite these challenges, the 35-year-old is preparing for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar series, hoping to improve his performance. Smith recognizes that this series will be a tough contest between two strong rivals.
“I’m looking forward to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy,” Smith said. “India will be a great challenge; they’re a very good team. We’re the two best Test teams in the world.”
India has dominated the last four Border-Gavaskar series against Australia. The next series will start in November 2024, with India aiming for another win.
Smith, who has scored 2042 runs in 19 Tests against India, averaging 65.87 with 9 centuries, also spoke about their upcoming ODI matches against England.
“We’ll be playing ODI matches against England next, but we’ll discuss that later,” Smith added. He also mentioned that he’s comfortable playing in any position.
“I’m ready to play at any position,” Smith said.
