Shahzaib, Usman shine as Pakistan U19 secure victory against Afghanistan
DUBAI: Shahzaib Khan and Usman Khan’s impressive half-centuries helped Pakistan U19 secure a thrilling 13-run victory over Afghanistan in the U19 tri-series match at the ICC Academy on Wednesday.
This win marked Pakistan’s first triumph against Afghanistan in the ongoing tournament. Earlier, Afghanistan had defeated Pakistan by a massive 100-run margin at the same venue.
Chasing a target of 245, Afghanistan managed 231 runs in 46.4 overs. Uzairullah Niazai stood out with a strong 70 off 72 balls, while Faisal Shinozada added 47 from 48 balls but fell short of his half-century.
On the bowling side, Ali Raza shone with four wickets, and Faham-ul-Haq contributed by taking three key dismissals.
Pakistan’s innings began with a solid 129-run opening partnership. Usman Khan top-scored with 77 runs off 88 balls, including eight boundaries, while Shahzaib Khan contributed 78 off 101 balls, hitting seven fours.
However, the middle order struggled to add significant runs. Mohammad Tayyab Arif scored 19, captain Saad Baig made 15, and Mohammad Ahmed added 13. As a result, the team was bowled out for 244 in 49.4 overs.
For Afghanistan, Abdul Aziz Khan and Khatir Khan Stanikzai each took three wickets, while Naseer Khan Maroofkhil picked up two.
Pakistan U19 will now face the hosts in their final group match, scheduled for Friday.
