Fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi, who is currently captaining the Lions in the Champions One-Day Cup, is recovering well after being injured during a match against the Dolphins. Afridi was hit on his left knee by a ball from Faheem Ashraf, forcing him to leave the field. Despite the injury, he bravely returned to bat later, hitting two sixes off Mir Hamza in the 47th over and scoring 33 not out from 28 balls. However, the Lions ultimately lost the game by 16 runs.
Pakistan’s team physio, Cliff Deacon, is keeping a close eye on Afridi’s condition. His participation in the upcoming playoffs will depend on medical clearance. Shaheen’s fitness is expected to be evaluated during the Lions’ practice session today. The first eliminator of the tournament, featuring the Lions and the Stallions, is set to take place tomorrow.
Afridi has faced some struggles with his form recently. He only took three wickets in Pakistan’s T20I series loss to England earlier this year and had a disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup. However, he has bounced back in the Champions Cup, taking nine wickets in four matches.
After the injury, Shaheen reassured fans in a post-match interview that his knee is fine, explaining that he had already been dealing with some swelling from an earlier dive in the field, and the ball strike just aggravated the pain.
