Aug 20, 2024

Samoa batter Darius Visser set a new record by scoring the most runs in a single over at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub Regional East Asia-Pacific Qualifier A on Tuesday.

Visser hit six sixes and also took advantage of three no-balls during the 15th over bowled by Vanuatu’s Nalin Nipiko at the Garden Oval No.2 in Apia, Samoa.

At 28 years old, Visser scored 39 runs in that over, breaking the previous record of 36 runs set by Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh in the 2007 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Yuvraj’s record was matched by Kieron Pollard, Nicholas Pooran, Dipendra Singh Airee, Rinku Singh, and Rohit Sharma, who all scored 36 runs in an over.

Visser started by hitting sixes on the first three balls and then added four more runs to help his team reach a century with a legal delivery.

This achievement not only sets a new benchmark in men’s T20I cricket but also marks Samoa’s first international century.

Visser, who scored 132 runs from 62 balls, led Samoa to their second victory in the tournament.
