PCB appoints Wahab Riaz as director of key tournament

Nov 19, 2024

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former pacer Wahab Riaz as the Director of the Champions One-Day Cup, marking his second major administrative role with the board. Wahab will be responsible for overseeing and managing all matters related to the tournament, ensuring its smooth operation and success.

Previously, Wahab served as a member of the national men’s selection committee and as the team manager during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup earlier this year. However, following Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the tournament, both Wahab and Mansoor Rana were removed from their roles. Reports at the time suggested that their dismissal was tied to concerns over maintaining discipline within the national team.

In response to his removal, Wahab issued a statement emphasizing his dedication to Pakistan cricket. He expressed pride in serving the game with sincerity and being part of a collaborative selection process. Wahab refrained from engaging in any blame games, instead choosing to focus on his contributions to the sport.

As the Director of the Champions One-Day Cup, Wahab now has an opportunity to apply his experience in a different capacity and continue his association with Pakistan cricket. This role highlights PCB’s trust in his abilities to contribute to the domestic cricketing structure.
