PCB appoints Shahid Aslam as men’s batting coach ahead of Zimbabwe tour
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former first-class cricketer Shahid Aslam as the national men’s team’s permanent batting coach ahead of their upcoming white-ball tour to Zimbabwe. The decision comes after the team struggled with batting performance, particularly during the recent T20I series against Australia, where Pakistan’s top-order failed to deliver. Shahid’s vast experience in coaching batters was a key factor in his recommendation by the newly appointed interim head coach Aqib Javed.
Shahid Aslam has previously been part of the national team’s support staff on several occasions. His first assignment in his new role will be the white-ball series in Zimbabwe, followed by a comprehensive tour to South Africa.
Pakistan’s batting performance during the T20I series against Australia was underwhelming, with Usman Khan being the only batter to score a half-century. Babar Azam, typically one of Pakistan’s top performers, struggled, managing only 47 runs over three innings, with a high score of 41 in the team’s defeat during the final match.
The white-ball tour of Zimbabwe is set to begin on November 24 with the first ODI in Bulawayo. The series will feature three ODIs followed by three T20Is, concluding on December 5.
Here’s the schedule for Pakistan’s Zimbabwe tour:
- 24th November: First ODI, Bulawayo
- 26th November: Second ODI, Bulawayo
- 28th November: Third ODI, Bulawayo
- 1st December: First T20I, Bulawayo
- 3rd December: Second T20I, Bulawayo
- 5th December: Third T20I, Bulawayo
