Noman Ali nominated for ICC Men’s Player of the Month Award for October 2024
DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the nominees for the Men’s Player of the Month Award for October 2024, with Pakistan’s left-arm spinner Noman Ali earning a spot alongside South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada and New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner.
Noman Ali’s nomination comes after his impactful role in Pakistan’s Test series comeback against England. Brought into the squad after Pakistan’s innings defeat in the first Test, Noman was instrumental in the turnaround, claiming an impressive 20 wickets in the remaining two matches at an average of 13.85. His remarkable bowling included match figures of 11/147 and 9/130, helping Pakistan clinch the series 2-1. Additionally, he made valuable contributions with the bat, including a crucial 45 runs in the first innings of the series-deciding Test.
South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada also finds himself among the nominees after his standout performances during his team’s historic 2-0 away Test series win over Bangladesh. Rabada, who recently reclaimed his spot atop the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings, took 19 wickets at a striking average of 9.00, including two five-wicket hauls. He opened the series with three wickets in the first Test’s opening innings, followed by a six-wicket haul in the second. In the next match, Rabada delivered another brilliant performance with a five-wicket haul in the first innings.
Mitchell Santner’s contributions for New Zealand in a single Test against India also earned him a nomination. The left-arm spinner dominated India’s batting lineup, finishing with five-wicket hauls in both innings at an average of 12.07, along with his career-best figures. Santner’s stellar 7/53 in the first innings was followed by another six wickets in the final innings, giving him match figures of 13/157 as he helped secure New Zealand’s victory. His all-around effort earned him the Player of the Match award.
These three bowlers, each excelling in their own way, are in the running for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month Award for October 2024, with the final winner to be decided soon.
