Rizwan Targets T20I Sweep After ODI Triumph

Nov 12, 2024

Pakistan’s T20I captain, Mohammad Rizwan, has high hopes for a clean sweep against Australia in their upcoming three-match T20I series, beginning on November 14 at The Gabba in Brisbane. This optimistic outlook follows Pakistan’s historic ODI series win in Australia – their first since 2002.

Pakistan initially suffered a narrow two-wicket loss in the opening match, but rebounded powerfully to win the remaining games, taking the series 2-1. Speaking to his team in the dressing room after the victory, Rizwan emphasized the importance of teamwork, saying that if they continue to play as a cohesive unit, they have a solid chance of sweeping the T20I series.

“No one expected us to beat Australia on their home ground. But we played together, and if we keep this up, we’ll whitewash them in the T20Is,” Rizwan said in a video shared by the Pakistan Cricket Board. He encouraged his teammates to set their sights on even bigger goals, including World Cups, the Champions Trophy, and future Olympic opportunities.

Rizwan also reminded the players of their role as ambassadors for Pakistan, urging them to conduct themselves with pride and professionalism during the tour. “Our ODI win was a proud moment, but it’s only the beginning. We need to aim for big titles like the Champions Trophy and World Cups to show the world what Pakistan cricket is capable of,” he added.

This series marks a valuable learning experience, according to Rizwan, who vowed that Pakistan will aim to create history on every future tour.

After the opening T20I in Brisbane, the teams will move to Sydney for the second match on November 16, with the final T20I scheduled for November 18 in Hobart.
