The much-awaited Boxing Day Test between India and Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is set to make history, with tickets for Day One already sold out. Cricket Australia confirmed the sell-out, highlighting the massive excitement surrounding this clash.
For the first time, a non-Ashes Boxing Day Test will attract over 86,000 fans on the opening day, a record-breaking turnout for this iconic event. The MCG, which can hold nearly 100,000 spectators, is ready to host an electrifying fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on December 26.
This series has already shattered attendance records. Over 36,000 fans turned up for Day One of the Adelaide Test, setting a 12-year record for the venue. Perth also saw historic crowds, with 96,463 spectators attending the first Test, marking the second-highest attendance ever for the city.
The five-match series, currently tied 1-1, has kept fans on edge. Jasprit Bumrah’s India dominated the opener in Perth, winning by 295 runs, while Pat Cummins’ Australia bounced back with a commanding 10-wicket victory in Adelaide.
