Jay Shah Honors Virat Kohli for 16 Years of Excellence in International Cricket
The BCCI Secretary, Jay Shah, congratulated India’s star cricketer Virat Kohli for completing 16 years in international cricket.
Kohli, now 35, made his debut in 2008 against Sri Lanka, where he scored just 12 runs. Despite the modest start, he went on to become one of the greatest cricketers ever.
Shah praised Kohli on social media, calling him the “King” and celebrating his legendary career, which began 16 years ago.
In One Day Internationals (ODIs), Kohli is regarded as the best player ever. He has scored 50 centuries, the most by any batter in ODI history, and has accumulated 13,906 runs in 295 matches with an average of 58.18.
In T20 Internationals (T20Is), Kohli has scored 4,188 runs in 125 matches, averaging 48.68 with a strike rate of 137.04. He was named Player of the Tournament in the T20 World Cup in 2014 and 2016 and was the Player of the Match in the 2024 T20 World Cup final, where India defeated South Africa.
In Test cricket, Kohli has scored 8,848 runs in 113 matches at an average of 49.15, including 29 centuries and 30 half-centuries.
Overall, Kohli has scored 26,942 runs in 533 matches, averaging 53.35, with 80 centuries and 140 half-centuries. He is the second-highest run-scorer in history, only behind Sachin Tendulkar.
Kohli has also won three ICC trophies with India: the 2011 ODI World Cup, the 2013 Champions Trophy, and the 2024 T20 World Cup, playing a key role in all these victories.
