Jason Gillespie ‘not keen’ for full-time white-ball coaching
In Adelaide on Friday, Pakistan’s red-ball head coach, Jason Gillespie, shared that he’s not interested in taking on the role of full-time white-ball coach for Pakistan. Speaking to the Australian media, Gillespie clarified that his current role as interim coach for the white-ball team is only temporary and that he hadn’t applied for the full-time position.
“I’m only stepping in as a temporary white-ball coach. Right now, I’m not looking to take on this role permanently,” said Gillespie. He explained that while he loves coaching, being away from home for 11 months a year isn’t feasible for him, both for personal and mental reasons, as he values time with his family.
Gillespie stepped in as interim coach following Gary Kirsten’s resignation just before Pakistan’s tour of Australia. Despite his temporary role, Gillespie has seen success with the team. After narrowly losing the first ODI in the three-match series, Pakistan bounced back with a strong nine-wicket victory in the second ODI.
In the second match, Pakistan restricted Australia to 163 runs, with Haris Rauf leading the charge by taking five wickets, while Shaheen Shah Afridi contributed with 3/26 in his eight overs. Chasing 164, Pakistan comfortably reached their target with 141 balls remaining, losing just one wicket. Saim Ayub led the chase with an impressive 82 off 71 balls, supported by Abdullah Shafique, who remained unbeaten on 64 off 69 balls, sealing a series-tying win for Pakistan.
