India come from behind to crush Australia in series opener
India Crush Australia by 295 Runs in First Test, Bumrah Shines as Captain
India, led by stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah, secured a dominating 295-run victory over Australia in the first Test at Perth’s Optus Stadium on Monday.
Set a massive target of 534 runs, Australia could only manage 238 in their second innings despite a spirited half-century by Travis Head.
Day 4: India’s Bowling Dominance
Australia resumed play on 12/3 and suffered an early blow as Usman Khawaja (4) was dismissed on the seventh delivery of the day.
Steve Smith and Travis Head briefly steadied the innings with a 62-run partnership for the fifth wicket. The pair showed patience and played cautiously, but Mohammed Siraj broke through, dismissing Smith for 17 with a perfectly executed outswinger.
Head then teamed up with Mitchell Marsh to put up a solid 82-run stand, offering hope for the home side. However, Bumrah struck again, dismissing Head for a well-fought 89 off 101 balls, which included eight boundaries.
Just five overs later, Nitish Kumar Reddy cleaned up Marsh, who contributed 47 off 67 balls with three fours and two sixes.
Australia’s Lower Order Fails to Resist
The lower order offered little resistance apart from wicketkeeper Alex Carey, who fought back with a gutsy 36. Carey’s dismissal marked the end of Australia’s innings as they fell short by a significant margin.
India’s Bowlers Shine
Bumrah and Siraj led the charge with three wickets each, while Washington Sundar claimed two. Nitish Kumar Reddy and Venkatesh Rana chipped in with one wicket apiece.
Player of the Match
Jasprit Bumrah, who impressed with both his captaincy and bowling, was named Player of the Match for his exceptional performance.
India’s commanding win gives them a 1-0 lead in the five-match series, with momentum firmly in their favor heading into the next Test.
