Flying ants halt T20 clash between South Africa and India
In Pretoria, the third T20 International between South Africa and India faced an unusual delay when a swarm of flying ants invaded Centurion Park, halting play shortly after South Africa began their innings. Umpires paused the match for nearly 30 minutes due to the overwhelming number of insects.
India had earlier set a formidable target of 219/6, led by Tilak Varma’s explosive unbeaten 107 from 56 balls. South Africa managed to score seven runs without loss before play was interrupted after just one over.
Insect interruptions aren’t new in South Africa; a game against Sri Lanka in 2017 was similarly paused due to bees. Despite the delay, India eventually restricted South Africa to 208, clinching an 11-run victory.
