FIR filed against Bangladesh’s former captain Mashrafe Mortaza
Former Bangladesh cricket captain Mashrafe Mortaza has been named in a legal case for allegedly being involved in an illegal share transfer. The complaint was filed by Sarwar Ghulam Chaudhary, the former chairman of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) team Sylhet Strikers, at a local police station.
Sarwar has accused Mortaza and five others of forcibly taking control of shares worth 4.5 crore taka of the Sylhet Strikers in 2023. According to the complaint, Sarwar was threatened with death when the money for the shares was not paid.
The investigating officer, Adil Hussain, confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged against Mortaza, though no arrests have been made yet.
This legal trouble adds to Mortaza’s difficulties, as he is also facing allegations related to attacks on students during the recent political unrest in Bangladesh.
Mashrafe Mortaza, also known as the “Narail Express,” made his debut for Bangladesh in 2001 as a fast bowler. Despite his successful cricket career, he has also ventured into politics, previously being a member of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s party.
Additionally, his teammate, Shakib Al Hasan, has faced legal issues, being linked to a murder case involving a garment factory worker.
