Fakhar, Imam likely to return to Pakistan’s white-ball team: reports

Nov 6, 2024

Left-handed openers Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq are likely to be part of Pakistan’s white-ball squad for the upcoming tour of South Africa later this year.

Pakistan will travel to South Africa in December for a three-match T20I series, followed by three ODIs and two Tests as part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25.

Reports suggest that Pakistan plans to make key adjustments to its white-ball lineup, including adding openers Fakhar and Imam. Fakhar was notably left out of the white-ball squad for Pakistan’s current tour of Australia. His exclusion followed a recent show cause notice issued by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after he criticized the decision to rest star batter Babar Azam in a social media post. Additionally, Fakhar was left out of PCB’s 12-month central contracts.

Imam, on the other hand, last played an ODI in Pakistan’s close loss to South Africa during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. He has an impressive ODI record, with 3,138 runs in 72 matches.
