How Will Ben Stokes Tackle His Injury During the Sri Lanka Test Series?
Former cricketer Stuart Broad praised England’s Test captain, Ben Stokes, for his dedication to leading the team, even though he is injured. Despite not playing in the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka, Stokes is determined to stay involved and support the team.
Stokes got injured while playing for the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred 2024 and will miss the series. In his absence, vice-captain Ollie Pope will take over as captain.
Speaking to a British news agency, Broad mentioned that Stokes has already contacted him, saying he plans to act as a coach, showing his commitment to the team. Broad added that Stokes, who loves to bat and bowl, is eager to stay engaged despite his injury. However, Broad also warned that not playing any cricket before the series could increase the risk of injury when the games begin.
England’s team is feeling confident after winning all three matches in their recent series against the West Indies, boosting their position in the World Test Championship rankings. However, the team faced challenges earlier this year against India and in the Ashes 2023 series against Australia.
Broad also pointed out that while Stokes’ injury is unfortunate, it gives England a chance to practice playing without him, which could be important for future games. He emphasized that while Stokes has not been able to bowl for a while and has been playing mainly as a batter, it’s crucial for the team to learn how to adapt if Stokes is unavailable in the future.
