ENG vs AUS: Travis Head equals Australia’s record after smashing 30 runs off Sam Curran
Australia’s opening batter Travis Head wowed everyone with his explosive hitting in the 1st T20I against England in Southampton on Wednesday. Head scored 30 runs in a single over, matching a national record. He hit 3 fours and 3 sixes off Sam Curran’s bowling in the fifth over, which was crucial in leading Australia to victory.
Head now shares the record for the most runs scored by an Australian in a T20I over with Ricky Ponting, Aaron Finch, Glenn Maxwell, Daniel Christian, and Mitchell Marsh.
The record for the most runs in a single T20I over is 39, set by Samoa’s Darius Visser against Vanuatu last month.
Head also reached a half-century during the Powerplay and formed a strong partnership with fellow opener Matthew Short, who scored 41 runs. Together, they added 86 runs for the opening stand. Head scored 59 runs off 23 balls, hitting 8 fours and 4 sixes.
This was Head’s fourth T20I half-century this year, solidifying his spot as the top-ranked player in the ICC Men’s T20I Batter Rankings.
Australia’s bowlers, led by Josh Hazlewood, Adam Zampa, and Sean Abbott, were too strong for England, who were chasing a target of 180 runs. The trio took seven wickets, with Abbott claiming three. England was bowled out for 151, falling 28 runs short. With this win, Australia leads the three-match series 1-0. The 2nd T20I will be played in Cardiff on Friday.
