PCB postpones Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, sources

KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has postponed the start of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, the nation’s premier first-class cricket tournament, which was initially set to begin on October 20. According to sources, the tournament’s future remains uncertain as final decisions for the current season are still pending.

Insiders from the PCB have shared that the board’s domestic department is awaiting approval from PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi on several important issues, including the new dates for the tournament. A revised schedule is expected to be announced soon.

This isn’t the first time PCB’s domestic cricket calendar has faced disruption. Earlier, the Under-19 domestic tournament was suspended after only one day of play.

In response to the potential delay, the PCB’s domestic department has advised departmental teams to prepare for the Presidents Trophy, a backup first-class tournament. The Presidents Trophy is currently scheduled to commence on January 6. Should the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy continue to face setbacks, the PCB may choose to prioritize the Presidents Trophy instead, sources revealed.

“As a precaution, departmental teams have been told to stay ready,” a source commented, indicating the possibility of shifting focus to the alternate competition if further delays occur.
