CPL 2024: Mohammad Amir breaks Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s T20 record

Sep 16, 2024

Pakistan’s fast bowler Mohammad Amir has set a new record in T20I cricket by delivering 25 maiden overs, surpassing India’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who has 24 maiden overs.

Amir, 32, achieved this milestone while playing for the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in the Caribbean T20 League, placing him third on the all-time list. The top two spots are held by Sunil Narine of the West Indies with 30 maiden overs and Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan with 26.

In addition to this achievement, Amir has made a significant impact in the domestic T20 format, collecting 347 wickets in 302 matches. In the ongoing 2024 Caribbean Premier League, he has taken five wickets in seven matches.

Amir is well-remembered for his crucial role in Pakistan’s 2017 Champions Trophy victory, where he dismissed key Indian batsmen including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shikhar Dhawan, helping Pakistan win by 180 runs.

The Antigua and Barbuda Falcons are gearing up for their next match against the St Lucia Kings on Monday after a recent loss to the Barbados Royals on September 12. So far, the Falcons have secured only one win in the tournament, a narrow six-run victory against the Trinbago Knight Riders on September 6.
